Announcing our candidate for Mornington

It's terrific to welcome Martin Rush to the Eastern Victoria Team as our lower house candidate for Mornington

Greens announce candidate for Mornington for the 2010 State Election

The Greens are pleased to announce Martin Rush as the endorsed candidate for Mornington.

Martin is a long term visitor to and now resident of Mornington. He is a Life Member and Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration, Victoria. He is passionate about singing in a local group, The Mornington Musical, for the benefit of elderly people on the Peninsula and is involved in Mornington environment and historical groups, book reading, philosophy and a foreshore restoration group. He is a proud grandfather, has two children and a lovely wife, two dogs and a beloved back garden including the vegie patch. The garden is indigenous (mainly), and the house is well served with solar panels, solar water heating and 28,000 litre water tanks.

Martin said the following needs encouraged him to stand as a Greens candidate for Mornington:

· genuine community influence in planning processes;
· frequent, accessible and integrated public transport services;
· protection for our foreshore and beaches;
· protection for our Green Wedge rural character and urban open spaces;
· more support for arts, leisure, environment and sporting groups.

”I’m very concerned about the proposed development of the Mornington Marina on Mother’s Beach, and planning decisions changing the character of Mornington” Martin said. “The environmental impact of Peninsula Link, the recent destruction of the heritage listed Westerfield estate, and the impending effects on the Moorooduc plains is a serious sign of the current government’s lack of concern for the people and environment of this electorate”.

“The Greens recent success in the Federal election and the high 19% polling figures indicates that voters are looking for a political party that will represent the community, stand for what’s right, and not be influenced by large developers or industries at the expense of the ordinary person.”
